Moving Day!

Yesterday Daniel and I loaded up a big ol' truck and moved into our new house.  This wasn't really the plan--our lease on our rent house doesn't end for four more weeks, but our landlord started showing the house and (if we can be out quickly) if someone wants it earlier than the end of our contract, we might just get a little money back.  So away we went!
Penny freaks out when we pack for anything, so I loaded her up in a box to assure her she was coming with us :) (I didn't leave her in there long, guys).

She actually mellowed out a lot when I put her in there, haha.  She's a strange one.

So last night was our first sleep in the new place.  We still have a long way to go on getting the house done (most of the upstairs is still without flooring!), but it was so exciting to finally stay there after over a month of hard work.  Can't wait to update you on all of our projects!

We're Buying a House!

Now that we've been through the inspection process, I can finally announce that we are buying a house! :)

We close in mid March, and Daniel and I are so excited to make this space our own.  We're also constantly asking one another when we became old enough for this, and how did we get so blessed?

I never updated you all on how the first evening of looking at houses went because we found the one that night!  It was our second stop.  I walked in, started crying a little, Daniel looked at me and said, "Okay." We knew it was it.  We made an offer that night after seeing three more houses and finding out there was already an offer on our house.  We found out the next afternoon our offer was accepted!  From there, we set up an inspection that was postponed several days due to last week's blizzard.  Thankfully the inspection went well, and we're happily moving forward.

We've had projects on our minds for the past couple of weeks, and much of our intentional time together has been spent clicking through Pinterest and walking around Home Depot. :) Fine by me!

This house will be the first place Daniel and I move into at the same time.  It'll be OUR space from the beginning.  It'll also be the house our future babies make messes in.  I am over the moon!

And I owe it to my sweet husband, who is a master at crunching numbers and calling realtors and lenders.  WHAT A MAN. Thanks, boo!

Couch Shopping

Since Daniel and I started looking at houses, we've been slowly taking inventory of what we have and trying to decide what our priorities will be in terms of purchasing furniture, decor, etc.  And I'm pretty excited, because one of the first things we've agreed to consider is a new couch!  Our couch now has been with me since sophomore year of college.  It's pea green suede and shows EVERYTHING--it came from a garage sale.  And after two years of college and two plus years with our puppy girls, this means it's looking pretty stinkin' gross at this point.

So we're dreaming of a couch that doesn't need to be vacuumed twice a day! And one that won't show it every time one of the dogs decides to obsessively lick the arm rest.  And maybe even a couch that'll be crayon and marker friendly when we have crazy little ones down the road!

We're just starting the looking process, and these don't necessarily fit the bill, but here are a few we like so far. And, best part--they wouldn't break the bank!

Having someone to get excited over a couch with is kind of a lot of fun.  And I appreciate so much that Daniel and I have similar taste.  We agreed we want to make the inside of our new house much classier than our rent house, but we still want it to look a little quirky and young.  Marriage is FUN.  Can't wait to keep you updated on this whole process!

Happy Friday, folks!  Have a warm, cozy weekend!

Nat & Kyle's Family Photos

Today looked like this:

This was outside my dad's house this morning, right before Daniel and I loaded the car to head home.  We had plans to stay in Tulsa through the Super Bowl, but the weather got serious real quick, so it was time to go.  And I'm glad we left when we did, because the hour and forty-five minute trip took three and a half hours.  But that's okay, because we're home safe now, sitting in front of the fireplace half-watching the game after a fantastic short weekend.  Really, it was one for the books.

I'm so glad the weather mostly held up for my shoots yesterday.  I'll be posting some of them over the next couple of weeks, and I can't wait! First off, though, I have to share a few photos of Nat and her husband in front of their new house!  It's coming along beautifully, and I love seeing my best friend so happy.

After eight inches of snow today, it's hard to believe yesterday looked like this.

:) How cute is baby Roxy?

Hope you're off the roads, sitting around with your loved ones, munching on some yummy snacks this evening!

House Hunting: Daniel and Jordan

Since it consumed most of our weekend, I think it's an appropriate time to announce that Daniel and I looking to buy a house! :)

We were pre-approved for a home loan on Friday.  I don't know many details on that whole process because Daniel kind of took care of it.  But I do know he found our realtor on Dave Ramsey's website and she referred him to a couple of banks.  We met with the realtor Saturday afternoon, discussed what we're looking for, and clicked through a BUNCH of listings online, which we've been doing for a couple of hours every evening the past few weeks. We narrowed it down to a few houses and made plans to go see them this week!

So I've obviously been dreaming about decor and pinning away between house searching sessions. I'm so excited to create a cozy space for Daniel and me, and our future little ones!

We're both a little nervous--this is a huge investment! But we're feeling mostly excited and relaxed.  We have until May to be moved out of our rent house, so we're not in a major rush.

I do keep wondering when I became old enough for something like this, though! :)

Furniture Shopping or Marriage Building?

Thank you Jordan for posting about our first update on our house, we got the internet up and working finally!

Today I want to touch on the wonderful world of furniture shopping. Kyle and I have successfully purchased two chairs and a console table for our new home.

I might have mentioned it before, but Kyle used to work at Mathis Brother’s Furniture store, which trained him on all the styles and brands of furniture. This has been very helpful but also a little challenging when I like the look of a piece, but he doesn't like the quality.

Also, our styles are pretty different but we have learned how to find things that make us both happy.  I would say I like more quirky, eclectic, very open things and Kyle likes more traditional, solid, darker things. I would describe our combined style as rustic-modern. I am trying to think of a different name for it since sounds like such an oxymoron, but I think that suits us best.

When moving into our house, we knew we wanted a chair for each of us, and we didn’t have anything to put our tv on (it was mounted on the wall in the apartment).

Kyle has always wanted a recliner and I was very weary of the traditional style of recliner.  Big pillows of shiny leather consuming whoever sits in it was not really what I had in mind for my dream living room. Amazingly, we found a very sleek, track arm chocolate brown leather recliner that was soo comfy. It even matched the couch we hope to get in the future. Later, when we got it home it did not recline very well so we ended up getting the same style of chair only not a recliner. Kyle compromised on his recliner but he has promised me he loves his chair and ottoman just as much, ha.

Then it was my turn to find a chair. I thought I wanted some sort of smaller, sleek, fabric recliner but apparently only super expensive designers make those. We looked around Mathis Brothers and while Kyle was talking to someone he knew, I sat down in a modern armchair with a tweed-like material and decided this was it! It didn’t have an ottoman or the reclining factor but I decided I could make my own ottoman (which I’m in the process of doing, I’ll post when complete).

Our console was also randomly found when we were wandering around Mathis Brother’s. I first saw the matching end table and noticed the color of the wood and modern look, and when I looked around we saw the console. It is very open and we plan to make a shelf for the cable boxes and things, but it was a quality piece of furniture for a good price and a beautiful color!

Please excuse the crazy amount of cords, I'm working on that :)

To each their own when buying furniture, but Kyle and I have found it can be a marriage building experience when compromise is involved.  I am one to want to build everything (like a console table) but I realize I don’t have time for all of it and as long as we have budgeted for these things, we can spend a little money on quality furniture we will use for years to come.

Good luck out there couples!

Nat's House Renovations (Pt. 1)

Nat was planning on posting a little renovation update today, but unplugging her internet to move furniture made that a little complicated.  Luckily I spent most of my day at her fantastic new house taking a few photos and catching up while her hubs was at work.  She painted the living room a pretty off white, and it's lookin' GOOD.  They're knocking major renovations out right away and I can't wait to see how she decides to decorate her new space.

I miss my husband, but spending a little time apart to feed sweet friendships is so important.
I'm so excited for my best friend in this incredibly special time in her life and marriage!
